Poet Laureate Prize The Georgia Council for the Arts is, with our state Poet Laureate, Judson Mitcham, calling for entries in this year’s Poet Laureate Prize. The Poet Laureate Prize is an original poetry competition for high school students in our state. A winner and four finalists will be selected by the Poet Laureate and announced in early April 2016. The winning poet and finalists will have the opportunity to meet Governor and Mrs. Deal and the Poet Laureate when they are honored at the Georgia State Capitol in the spring. The winner and finalists will also tour the historic Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta. The winning entry will receive mention in the June 2016 print edition of Atlanta Magazine. The winning and finalist poems will be published at atlantamagazine.com. Entry details can be found on the GCA’s website. Entry deadline is March 7, 2016. The Atlantic Magazine & College Board have partnered for the second year to sponsor a writing competition. The Atlantic & College Board Writing Prize is focused on high school student essays that insightfully analyze and interpret a meaningful work of art. Essays should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words and can be submitted from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2016. Students need a teacher to sponsor them in order to participate.
